The 4ABT16373 is a 16-bit transparent D-type latch with 3-stateoutputs designed specifically for driving highly capacitive orrelatively low-impedance loads. It is particularly suitable forimplementing buffer registers, I/O ports, bidirectional bus drivers, and working registers.
The device can be used as two 8-bit latches or one 16-bit latch. When the latch-enable (LE) input is high, the Q outputs follow thedata (D) inputs. When LE is taken low, the Q outputs are latched atthe levels set up at the D inputs.
A buffered output-enable (
) input can be used to place the eight outputs in eithera normal logic state (high or low logic levels) or a high-impedancestate. In the high-impedance state, the outputs neither load nordrive the bus lines significantly. The high-impedance state and theincreased drive provide the capability to drive bus lines withoutneed for interface or pullup components
The output enable (
)does not affect internal operations of the latch. Old data can beretained or new data can be entered while the outputs are in thehigh-impedance state.
To ensure the high-impedance state during power up or power down,
should be tiedto VCC through a pullup resistor; the minimum value of theresistor is determined by the current-sinking capability of thedriver.
The SN74ABT16373 is available in TI's shrink small-outline package(DL), which provides twice the I/O pin count and functionality ofstandard small-outline packages in the same printed-circuit-boardarea.
The SN54ABT16373 is characterized for operation over the fullmilitary temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. TheSN74ABT16373 is characterized for operation from -40°C to85°C.
