Application Report Abstract

VLAN APPLICATIONS USING TNETX3150/TNETX15VE

This document presents a logical VLAN model and programming interface to configure Virtual LANs (VLANs) using the TNETX3150 (ThunderSwitch 12/3/0) and TNETX15VE (EALE 2.0) devices. This document uses the term TSwitch and EALE to refer to the TNETX3150 and TNETX15VE devices respectively.

To utilize the VLAN capabilities of the EALE device, certain device registers must be properly configured. Although this is not a particularly difficult operation, it becomes trivial if a simple software model is used to construct a logical VLAN configuration. Once the logical VLAN configuration is built, it is mapped to the physical registers of the EALE device.

A description of the VLAN software model and programming interface used to construct a logical VLAN configuration will be given. Then, how this logical configuration is mapped to the physical registers on the EALE device will be examined.
