Application Report Abstract

CASCADING THE TNETX4090 THUNDERSWITCH II USING A RING MODE CONFIGURATION

This application report explains how to configure the Texas Instruments (TI™) TNETX4090 ThunderSWITCH™ II device in a ring mode configuration. The ring mode configuration allows the Ethernet switch designer to double, triple, or even quadruple the number of ports in a design without increasing overall system complexity.

This document contains block and interconnection diagrams along with hardware and register configurations for the ring mode. An example details a step-by-step configuration of three TNETX4090 devices for the ring mode. Throughput test results for the ring mode configuration are also included.
