Application Report Abstract

TMS320C17 AND TMS370C010 SERIAL INTERFACE (CONTAINS SCANNED TEXT)

Intelligent knowledge-based DSP systems such as those in the TMS320 family are increasingly desirable to designers. The need for memory backup is critical in order to save acquired knowledge in case of a power failure. This chapter examines how the problems with power failure can be remedied using both battery back-up and host processor interface.

Topics covered include:

- System configuration

- TMS320C17/E17 overview

- TMS320C17/E17 serial port

- TMS370C010 overview

- Interfacing the TMS320C17/E17 to the TMS370 and CODEC simultaneously

- A design example

- A list of References

- Three appendices of source code examples

Supporting figures illustrate the following:

- Block diagram of TMS320C17/E17/TMS370C010 system

- TMS370C17/E17 block diagram

- TMS320C17/E17 serial interface logic

- Simple and stand-alone interfaces

- TMS370C010 block diagram

- TMS370C010 SPI module

- Timing diagrams for various types of transmissions

- Full-system schematic

- Serial interface with CODEC

- A design example
