USING THE CAPTURE UNITS FOR LOW SPEED VELOCITY ESTIMATION ON A TMS320C240

Estimating velocity from a digital position sensor is a cost-effective strategy in motor control. Equations are given for two different first order approximations for velocity. This document describes how the capture units are used for low speed velocity estimation on the TMS320C240. Equations are given to demonstrate the techniques used. There is a lengthy code example and timing diagrams to show exactly how the techniques are implemented.
