CALCULATION OF TMS320C2XX POWER DISSIPATIONThe static CMOS technology used in fabricating the TMS320C2xx (‘C2xx) DSP combines high density with low power dissapation. Since CMOS devices only draw current when switching, this DSP offers the potential for fully static devices with standby modes drawing low current values. This characteristic makes the 16-bit fixed-point ‘C2xx well suited to portable power sensitive and battery operated applications such as digital cell phones, laptop modems and voice mail pagers. This document describes the techniques for analyzing system and device combinations to determine operating current levels. From this analysis power dissapation is calculated, which in turn determines device thermal management requirements.
