IIR FILTER DESIGN ON THE TMS320C54X DSP APPLICATION REPORT

Using a 16-bit fixed point DSP to implement an IIR filter results in a calculation overflow of the output signal. Scaling the input removes the overflow, but causes a low output signal. Boosting the output signal requires the addition of an op amp to the hardware design. This document shows an IIR software implementation using the TMS320C54x that accommodates the overflow without additional hardware. The appendix contains the assembler source code for this application.
