DESIGNING WITH THE TL5001 PWM CONTROLLERElectrical and electronic products required to be lighter, smaller, use less power, and cost less. Manufacturers are turning to small high-frequency dc-to-dc converters for the power supply solution. The TL5001, pulse-width modulator (PWM) control integrated circuit, when combined with a few external components, can implement the converters and operate at frequencies to 400 kHz. This document provides three examples, 12-V to 5-V at 3-A, 12-V to 3.3-V at 3-A, and 5-V to 3.3-V at 0.75-A, of the TL5001 as a step-down converter, with schematics, specifications, and test results. The appendix contains breadboard results for the first example.
