Texas Instruments Ships Ten Millionth
DSP to Maxtor
Maxtor
Is TI's Fastest Growing DSP Solutions Customer
TUSTIN, CA February 16,
1998 -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE:TXN) today
announced that it shipped its ten millionth cDSP
(customizable Digital Signal Processor) integrated
circuit to Maxtor Corporation in January. Texas
Instruments and Maxtor have worked together since 1994 to
jointly develop innovative DSP uniprocessor based
architectures. This teamwork and integration effort
resulted in significantly reduced IC component counts and
improvements in the quality, reliability and cost
effectiveness of Maxtor's products - all key ingredients
in Maxtor's resurgence in the disk drive marketplace. All
Maxtor new products introduced since late 1996 have
shipped with TI cDSPs.
Rick Goerner,
Vice-President and Worldwide Manager of TI's Storage
Products Group, presented an award to Maxtor President
and CEO, Michael R. Cannon, at Maxtor's headquarters in
Milpitas, California recently to recognize Maxtor's
relationship with Texas Instruments as the fastest
growing DSP Solutions customer. "We value our
strategic relationship with Maxtor. Together, we created
a unique integration roadmap that has helped Maxtor
supply top-notch quality products to the mass storage
industry with TI's innovative DSP technology, said
Goerner. We are both pleased and honored to be a
part of their success." Maxtor's revenue growth is
attributed to its focus on high performance, quality
products in the HDD market from 1996 through 1997.
Cannon commented,
"TI DSPs are one of the critical elements in
improving the quality, storage capacity and performance
of our disk drives."
