TMS320C8x XDS510/XDS510WS

TI provides C8x emulation systems for both PC and SPARC systems:

XDS510: a PC version consisting of a half-size AT board and a JTAG emulation cable.
XDS510WS: a SPARC version consisting of an external controller box, a SCSI cable, a power supply, power supply cable, and a JTAG emulation cable. The controller box connects to the SPARCstation via the SCSI cable.

The emulator uses the TMS320 Debugger Interface, (debugger software is sold separately) which allows the emulator to control the C8x on the target board. This is done by interfacing the C8x target system to the emulator via the JTAG emulation cable. The Debugger can then be used to verify the functionality of the C8x software and target hardware.

The emulators use scan-based emulation which is a non intrusive approach to system emulation and debug. The emulator connects to a 14-pin header that must be designed into the target board. The C8x uses the JTAG standard to control the on-chip emulation scan path. Using the scan path, the emulator can run and halt the C8x and scan in and out all of the bits of each register.
