by Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products
Software Overview
L&H.smc250 Coder provides the ability to compress (encode) and decompress (decode) speech for more
efficient storage and faster transmission. The product is based on the combination of multi-band
excitation and codebook excited linear prediction with propriety improvements. L&H.smc250 is
designed to cover the range between 1.0 to 4.0 kbps. The quality is estimated at 3.0 MOS (Mean
Opinion Score).
Features and Benefits
• Transmission savings of up to 27 times compared to regular m-law or A-law PCM.
• Real-time compression and decompression.
• Storage savings of up to 54 times compared to linear sampling.
• Enhanced perceptual and dynamic filtering techniques maintains speech quality at low bit rates.
• Silence management allows 20% extra savings.
