The VIRTUOSO Micro RTOS
by High-Tech Services Partners

Software Overview

VIRTUOSO Micro is a fast, preemptive, multi-tasking kernel. Each microkernel task has its own stack
and is scheduled in order of its priority. The microkernel interfaces directly with the interrupts
(while global interrupts remain enabled). The micro- kernel offers a rich C-level API which is
highly portable across processors, boards, and configurations. The VIRTUOSO Micro has the same API
as the microkernel level API of VIRTUOSO Classico.
Services: Task management, counting semaphores, FIFO queues, synchronized mailboxes, memory
allocation, resource protection, workload monitoring, interfaces with ISRs. Most services are
provided in non-blocking, blocking, and time-out versions. Group operations on tasks. Source-code
versions can be stripped and rebuilt for smaller size.
Applications: single-processor (or small multi-processor) systems for control, multimedia, virtual
instrumentation, telecommunications, signal and image processing.

Features and Benefits

•	Programming in ANSI C and partly/entirely in assembler, if so desired
•	Availability of DSP libraries
•	System generation: Automatic and transparent generation of start-up code and system tables for
each processor in the network. Includes network loader.
•	Debugger support: integrated task-level debugger, tracing monitor, and workload monitor, all
compatible with TI emulator and debugger.
•	Support libraries: Character I/O, standard I/O, PC graphics
•	Hosts supported include PC, Sun Workstations, VME-native SPARC SBC.

Processor and System Specifications

•	Code size: About 4.5 kwords in a single-processor implementation on TI TMS320C40

Availability

•	Texas Instruments' TMS320C3x and TMS320C4x.
•	Porting on custom-designed boards at an extra charge.

Company Background and Contact Information

HSP is specialized in supplying integrated high-performance parallel-processing systems. The
company is among the first to use extensively MIMD multi-processor structures to implement
real-time and/or number-crunching applications, with an emphasis on a system approach. Where
needed, special hardwares, basic software, and application software are developed on a specific
basis.
