Caller Identification Delivery
on Call Waiting
by D2 Technologies, Inc.

Software Overview

D2's Caller Identification on Call Waiting (CIDCW) algorithm module implements all of the physical
layer signal processing functions for North American Caller ID and Caller ID on Call Waiting
applications according to the Bellcore type 1 and type 2 voice and data transmission interface
requirements. It detects the CPE Alert signal (CAS) tone, detects and decodes the Bell 202 FSK
modem data for on-hook and off-hook transmission, and generates DTMF as the acknowledgment or
dialing signal. All of these algorithms comply with the Bellcore CPE compatibility test
requirements.
The TMS320C5x and TMS320C2xx versions of the CIDW algorithm are designed to the VP Open interface,
the CID algorithm module easily integrates with other VP Open modules, runs in real-time
concurrently with other VP Open modules, and handles any number of voice ports assigned to the DSP.
Like all of D2's algorithm modules, the CIDCW algorithm module consists of robust software that is
rigorously tested.

Features and Benefits

•	Detects presence of CPE Alert Signal (CAS) tone
•	Detects and decodes 1200-baud FSK (Bell 202) modem data
•	Generates DTMF signal for acknowledgment (ACK) and dialing
•	Complies with Bellcore SR30 physical layer requirements and SR3004 test requirements for type 1
and type 2 equipment

Usage Limitations or Performance Considerations

The host, voice data input and output, memory allocation, and module to module communication
interfaces must conform to VP Open as described in the VP Open Software Interface Specification.

Algorithm Verification

D2's CIDCW algorithm validation tests:
•	FSK tolerance tests according to Bellcore requirements for on-hook and off-hook transmission:
amplitude sensitivity, frequency and baud rate variation, twist, seizure delay, drop-out, and
seizure/mark signal lengths variation
•	CAS tone detector tests according to D2's CAS tone performance requirements (which includes
Bellcore requirements): tone variations, talk-off immunity, talk-down tolerance, and network noise
immunity
•	DTMF-tone quality for ACK and dialing
•	VP Open interface validation – the CIDCW module for the TMS320C5x and TMS320C2xx are integrated
with other VP Open modules and tested concurrently in real-time for multiple voice ports

Availability

Currently available for the TMS320C5x and TMS320C17. A demonstration package is available for the
TI EVM50 DSP board. The TMS320C17 software is available for on-chip ROM. Implementation for the
TMS320C2xx will be available 2Q 1996.
