CVSD
16 kbps
by Atlanta Signal Processors, Inc.

Software Overview

CVSD (continuously-varying-slope delta modulation) is a voice-coding algorithm used extensively in
tactical communications. Although the speech quality is average, the implementation of the
algorithm is simple, allowing for minimal system requirements.

Features and Benefits

•	Very-low computational requirements
•	Decoder includes efficient digital low-pass filter

Processor and System Specifications

•	Program memory: 490 words
•	Data memory: 215 words (excluding I/O buffers)
•	CPU loading (dynamic memory):
Encoder: 11%
Decoder: 6% (excluding low-pass filter)
Filter: 4%
•	Sample rate: 16 kHz

Usage Limitations or Performance Considerations

•	The buffer size, in samples, must be an integer multiple of 32.

Algorithm Verification

•	Pending

Availability

•	Written by and available from Atlanta Signal Processors.
