Encryption Package
by 3C

Software Overview

The security of stored and transmitted data is a matter which becomes increasingly important. To
meet the needs for encryption, 3C now offers a library of encryption routines for the `C5x series
of TI DSPs: the Encryption Package (EP). The EP contains a wide range of well known, well
investigated symmetric encryption algorithms (e.g., DES, Triple-DES, IDEA©, SAFER). Its very
attractive pricing scheme is based on the assumption, that no customer has use for all these
algorithms at the same time. Usually he will evaluate some of the algorithms in question and then
decide which one to use. The EP offers the unique possibility to do so: The customer only pays the
price for one algorithm, he gets the whole library, he evaluates the routines and subsequently uses
one of them. The EP is suited for integration in already `C5x-based products as well as for
applications which need a flexible, standalone cryptographic module.

Company Background and Contact Information

In the beginning of 1994, two computer scientists, Toni Klingler and Michael Portz, founded the 3C
Dr.Klingler, Dr.Portz GbR in Herzogenrath, Germany. The company is a spin-off of the nearby RWTH
(Aachen University of Technology) one of Europe's best known research facilities in Engineering and
Computer Science, with more than 36,000 students. Dr.Klingler and Dr.Portz worked for several years
at RWTH on topics like communications technology, signal processing, parallel processing, computer
networks, coding theory, data security, and cryptography. 3C is located in the Center of Technology
Herzogenrath (TPH), the home of more than 60 innovative companies, mainly working in the area of
computer and communications technology.
Companies like Ericsson, Philips, Mitsubishi Semiconductor, ELSA, and Vobis, Europe's largest
retail seller of computer and communications equipment, have their European research headquarters
in the vicinity of the TPH.
