Case Study #3
Next gen pico-basestation for PCS network
- operates at 1.8 (or 1.9) GHz
Smaller effective range
- requires more basestations
- requires significant size & cost reductions
Reduced number of channels and power consumption budget
Notes:
Company Y is developing their next generation pico-basestation for a PCS (Personal Communications Services) network. PCS cellular operates at 1.8 (or 1.9) Ghz vs. the 800-900 Mhz range for digital cellular. As a result, more information can be transmitted with PCS, but since the effective range is much smaller, more basestations are required to maintain the signal strength. While there are more basestations, the size and cost of each must be reduced significantly compared to standard digital cellular basestations. The number of channels and power consumption budget is reduced as well. Which processor, C54x or C6x, makes the most sense for this customer?
