Case Study #2
Basestation for digital cellular network
Want to reduce system cost & size
No previous TI DSP experience
Key careabouts:
- density of channels
- low power (somewhat concerned)
- development cycle time / ramping TI DSP learning curve
Notes:
Company X is developing their next generation basestation for a digital cellular network. They have no past experience with TI DSP and are looking at reducing both the cost and size of their existing system. Their chief careabout is density of channels, but this is not without some concern about power consumption. They would like to move forward on this design as quickly as possible. Since they have some code investment already on another architecture, they are a little worried about the learning curve of a new architecture. However, a competitively superior solution for their product is most important. Which processor, C54x or C6x, makes the most sense for this customer?
