Notes:
Company Z has alot of processor experience, but not necessarily with DSP. They are developing a piece of networking equipment that is described as an "enterprise server" which requires the use of multiple V.34 modems as well as DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) and echo cancellation. They have looked at various ways to implement this solution. Today, they are using banks of Rockwell modems to perform the V.34. The functionality of the DTMF and echo cancellation is currently addressed by a different piece of equipment with a combination of ASIC and an i960 RISC processor. They would like to combine the functionality of the entire system into the same physical chasis -- something that is not possible today due to size of 'stack & rack' modems they currently use. The new system probably cannot be condensed to a single board and there is some argument that they would like these separate for future flexibility and scalability. Cost, power, performance, size, and ease of use are all key considerations for this design. Which processor, C54x or C6x, is the better choice for this design?
