Recently, various trade publications around the world printed articles regarding the future of the TMS320C8x DSP generation. To quickly address this speculation, TI will continue to support the 'C8x product family and various improvements are planned for this architecture. TI firmly believes that the 'C8x is still the best DSP Solution for video and imaging applications.
For 1997, new 'C80 and 'C82 silicon releases are currently scheduled for the third quarter. Other planned improvements will include new package offerings for the 'C80, speed enhancements for both devices, and a new development tools version.
For 15 years, TI has been the world leader in DSP Solutions. One of the reasons for this success is the strength of the TMS320 DSP family, which now includes 10 generations: 'C1x, 'C2x, 'C2xx, 'C5x, 'C54x, 'C6x, 'C3x, 'C4x, 'C8x, and AVxxxx. The 'C8x generation plays a vital role in the TMS320 product line by providing a high performance, multiprocessor video and imaging solution for many applications, and it will continue to do so for many years to come.
