'C20x DSPs are general purpose DSPs designed to provide manufacturers of high-volume applications all the benefits of digital signal processing. The outstanding price/performance ratio of the 'C2xx generation brings the power of DSP to applications where it may not have been feasible previously, including areas where microcontrollers have traditionally been used.

The 'C20x DSPs include six devices: 'C203, 'LC203, 'C206, 'F206, 'LC206 and 'C209. Various capabilities and peripheral mixes for these devices include phased-locked loop (PLL), enhanced synchronous serial port (ESSP), universal synchronous serial port (UART), on-chip timers and low-power mode options. The TMS320F206 Flash DSP is the first DSP from Texas Instruments that integrates 32K words of flash, along with 4.5K words of RAM, all on a single device. Flash memory offers an excellent alternative to RAM because of its lower cost and nonvolatile storage, and it offers an alternative to ROM due to its reprogrammability.
