TI donates $7 million to Rice University

On March 19, TI presented Rice University, in Houston, Texas, with a US $7 million cash donation, representing a major investment toward TI's goal of maintaining the leadership role in digital signal processing and developing future technological advances.

"This donation serves as a permanent testament to TI's support of innovative engineering teaching and practice," said Rice President Malcolm Gillis. "More importantly, it strengthens the existing relationship-a collaboration that has already benefited both partners and will continue to contribute to their mutual success."

As a result of the donation from TI, Rice will be filling faculty positions that will enhance its research efforts in the areas of telecommunications and other related signal-processing applications, including applied mathematics, with an emphasis on digital wireless communication.

"There is an insatiable demand around the world for a workforce skilled in the development of advanced SC technology, such as digital signal processing solutions," said Tom Engibous, TI executive vice- president and president of the semiconductor group. "TI is committed to developing this workforce through higher education in these key SC technologies."
