TI's new H.320 software library, for use with the industry's highest performing DSP, the TMS320C80, enables system designers to develop the highest quality video conferencing systems -providing sharper video images with fewer artifacts.
Delivering up to 30 frames per second video performance at standard CIF or QCIF resolutions, the H.320 library includes all the software modules required for video, audio, and control functions. This includes the standard video-compression module H.261, audio modules G.728, G.722, and G.711, and communication modules H.221, H.242, H.230.
Advanced features beyond the standard H.320 specification include full-screen video display using scaling and filtering, inter-image interpolation to increase frame rates, and real-time parameter control to maintain video quality. Also, since the 'C80 is fully programmable, designers can implement proprietary system enhancements and update software to support the latest algorithms.
"The 'C80, when combined with new H.320 software library, makes TI's new video conferencing solution one of the best solutions available," said Marc Goddard, European 'C80 program manager. "It has enabled us to provide quality implementation of up to 30 frames per second video with high quality even with high-detail, high-movement images."
The H.320 software library is available to OEM customers under license in a variety of forms designed to meet specialized needs. Future developments will likely include real-time MPEG record and playback, audio compatibility, and V.34 modem capability, and will be aimed at fulfilling many anticipated new multimedia requirements.
