Stereo 18-bit sigma-delta A/D converter

TI has recently introduced the TLC320AD57, a stereo analog-to-digital converter that provides 18-bit signal conversion with sample rates of up to 48 KHz. Consisting of two synchronous conversion paths, it utilizes a 64x oversampling sigma-delta technique to provide a high-resolution, low-noise A/D solution.

The 'AD57 provides differential inputs to the two independent channels for improved signal/noise ratio (97 dB), with total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD +N) of 91 dB. The device is packaged in a 28-pin wide-body small-outline integrated circuit (SOIC) and integrates the decimation filter, analog filtering and timing, and control functions making it the ideal interface for business audio, multimedia audio, and industrial process-control applications.

For power-conscious users, the device consumes less than 225 mW from a single 5-V supply. Separate power-down controls for both the analog and digital circuitry reduces this to less than 1 mW. In addition, the small footprint and profile of the packaging make the device suitable for space-restrictive applications. The 'AD57 is available now from TI and TI authorized distributors. Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1,000 is U.S. $9.25.
