Subject: PAWS 3.2.2 beta test version

Hello John,

this is to follow up our conversation of last Friday.
I am writing in behalf of our two product lines Liquid Chromatography
and UV-Vis Spectroscopy. In both PL's we use the 310 as our instrument
controller and want to transfer to the Otter some time next year.

To test whether our software runs smoothly under PAWS 3.2.2 we would
like to receive a beta test version of 3.2.2. We will run that on of
our 360's until the Otter prototype arrives which was ordered for us by
Roland Martin.

Some key characteristics of our software are:
- use of DGL as well as direct graphic memory access via Assembler,
- softkey support,
- support of medium res monochrome and color graphics display,
- hooks into timerisrhook to poll our own HP-IB instruments for necessary
  data transfer.

Please send the PAWS software to:

Thank you for your support,

Joachim Dieckmann

Subject: PAWS problem solved

Hi John,

thanks for the additional hint about the heap manager but that wasn't
the problem. Today I got it working:

The machines I had tested our application before (360 and 319) both had
the catseye video chip. Our application, however, only differentiates
between series 200 and series 300 displays (for cursor control).
The bus error occured when it tried to access the topcat control register.

Now I configured the 360 with the 98543A video board and so far the system
works.

Joachim

Hello Joachim,

We have tested a 332 unit with a 9153C and the 3.22 Pascal revision.
We did a mediainit, moved files to the hard disc, booted from the
hard disc, and tried various other file operations without any
problems. I believe that you probably have a bad 332 unit. I'd suggest
that you try another 332 if you can get one.

The Pascal 3.22 revision has been released to manufacturing and is
now shipping to U.S. customers. If you are on the SE update service,
you should be receiving a copy very soon of the final 3.22 discs and
documentation.

I talked to Evan James, who is the 332 product manager here, and he
said that you should arrange for service through BMO (Boeblingen
Manufacturing Operation).

If you still believe that there is a software problem after further
investigation, please let me know as soon as possible. Right now,
your problem seems to most likely be related to faulty hardware.

Best regards,

John Schmidt

Subject: 332 HPIB problems
Status: R

Hi John,

as you suggested I tested my software with the 332 that was delivered
to Klaus Armbruster in Boeblingen and it ran like a champ.
This proves that the hardware of my unit is defective. I could later on
reduce the source of the defect to the HPIB controller because with an
additional high speed disc interface it works ok. So the DMA controller
must be all right.

Thanks for the help and Happy Easter,
Joachim Dieckmann
